MPS GRANT REQUIREMENT TO PREMIER

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Wednesday, September 7, some parliamentarians led by N.Batbayar met with the Prime Minister S.Batbold for discussing an issue concerning an investment contract established in connection with exploitation of the Oyutolgoi gold-copper deposit, and then granted to the Premier a requirement note.
At the meeting, N.Batbayar MP told the Premier that the above contract which was approved in 2009 did not satisfied clauses reflected in the 57th parliamentary resolution. According to him, the requirement intends to alter the investment contract within October 1, 2011 in respect of national interests and to submit results of it to the State Great Khural. The parliamentarians want to alter the investment contract by fixing the minimum size of the special license shares for the state with 34 per cent and by augmenting size of the state shares reaching to at least 50 per cent in a method of building a proper legal environment.
In response, the Premier mentioned an importance of the Oyutolgoi project for a development of Mongolia, and said that therefore this project must be continuously implemented on its time. "I consider the cabinet has to put control over the Oyutolgoi project and its implementation. Earlier the shareholders and the government have altered the contract in reducing the credit interest, agreeing not to diminish the 34 per cent of shares for the Mongolian side in any case and improved other terms," the Premier stressed, adding that the cabinet will talk with the investors on improving the terms for Mongolia, with putting a tough control over the implementation. He said the government will earnestly study matters of the requirement, and then will introduce implementation course of the Oyutolgoi project.
The parliamentarians said they keep their position not to give up the Oyutolgoi project.
