"MONGOLIA 48-HOUR 2011" FILM PROJECT BEGINS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ “Mongolian 48 hour film project 2010” International film challenge was held for the first time in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolian on September 9th through 16th of 2010. Science fiction movie “Dream” by Ch, Khoroldorj, producer of a studio “ICity”, received the best film award and participated in International Festival in Miami, United States of America. Our film participated successfully in the festival with over 3500 teams from 80 countries and was selected in the best 16 of the festival and also screened at Cannes International film Festival's Short Film Corner.
In 2009, Mongolia became the official producer of Mongolia 48 hour film project with three other countries, such as Mumbai, India, Beijing, China and Lisbon, Portugal and it shows that Mongolian filmmakers competed with their film in this Internationally acclaimed festival to be named one of the best, was that it is very near for Mongolian filmmakers to get awards from many other big name festivals, and to declare Mongolia to the world.
In 2009, Mumbai India, Beijing China, Lisbon Portugal and Ulaanbaatar Mongolia signed its official rights to host “48 Hour Film Project” and it shows that the opportunity has come to announce their home country to the world for Mongolian filmmakers when they declared as one of the best in this widely knows festival with their first ever movie.
There were 22 teams competed in “Mongolia 48hour film project 2010” and “Dream” , “Bargaining with the God”, “Hitler's dream come true”, “ Dawn” and “Flower” movies recieved nominated awards. In 2001, Mark Ruppert and Lisa Langdon created 48 hour film project and hosted the festival the first time in their home town Washington DC, United States. It became an instant hit among filmmakers and continued to grow internationally to become “48 Hour Film Project” organization in Boston, USA. The 48 hour film project is rapidly becoming well known every year amongst filmmakers and film goers alike and the number of cities and countries to sign in to host the festival is growing bigger each year. In 2009, N. Tsogtbayar, who works and lives in the USA, signed the rights to host the festival in Ulaanbaatar and in 2010, held it for the first time in Mongolia together with “Globe Arts Center”, a sister organization of “Globe International” non-profit organization, “Mongol Film Group” LLC and “Jur Ur” center.
The purpose of the festival is to support in presenting Mongolian film art to the world and promoting internationally, with some goals to build professionals to develop Local film art, to seek out talented young filmmakers, to improve filmmakers' skills and talent, to give an opportunity for filmmakers to compete with International filmmakers, to draw in to have film enthusiasts participate in creative arts and broaden their community and to measure Mongolian film art's scale in International field.
One best Mongolian film will have a chance to compete in an International film festival. This gives a great opportunity for filmmakers to get recognized and start network with International filmmakers.
Participating teams have to use above elements when they create their film. The producers and directors brainstorm to make a film with a very specific rules and regulations by cutting short of their food and sleep to do enormous amount of work in just two days or 48 hours exact, from writing script, casting actors and scouting shoot locations to get ready their film for the screening. It requires the ability to understand each other, discipline, unified mind and team, will and patience from the participants. These are all the characteristics filmmakers should have. Local team of judges chooses one from all the qualified films and declares it the winner and sends it to USA.
In accordance with the festival rules, all the films including those who did not make it in time would be screened at the local movie theatres. The award ceremony usually follows the last screening. The awards will be granted to the Best Film. The Producer of the winning team receives full grant to take his or her movie to the “International 48 hour film festival” in USA to compete for the grand prize. Jury award with a cash prize of MNT 1,000,000 and Audience award with a cash prize of MNT 500,000 will be granted. Other nomination prizes will be awarded to the best script, the best directing, the best cinematography, the best editing, the best ensemble acting, the best use of elements, the best sound/music.
