Washington hosts debates on South Caucasus

Washington, September 16 (AzerTAc). A conference “Twenty Years of Independence in the South Caucasus. Achievements and Challenges” has been held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies here.
During discussions, officials and researchers on South Caucasus region looked into cooperation between US and South Caucasus nations, reforms carried out with the US support and analyzed US`s efforts to promote partnership in the region.
Speaking about Azerbaian`s experiences, Reshad Karimov, Foreign Policy Analyst at Center for Strategic Studies of Azerbaijan touched upon Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan, which resulted in occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands and displacement of about a million people.
He pointed out national leader`s returning to power in 1993 marked a turning point in the history of Azerbaijan`s independence. Karimov noted President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues Heydar Aliyev`s forward-looking policy.
He provided insight into the the country`s economy.
Azeri researcher called on the Barack Obama`s administration not to forget its friends in the South Caucasus region.
