Arab Spring has anti-U.S. foundation

TEHRAN, Sept. 21 (MNA) -- Looking at the polls conducted by U.S. polling agencies, one should not be surprised to see that more than 80 percent of the people in the Middle East and North Africa have a negative image of the United States.

This extremely negative image will become even more tarnished when the U.S. applies its veto right in the United Nations Security Council to overrule the proposal to recognize Palestinian statehood.

Its frequent use of its UN veto in favor of Israel proves that the U.S. applies double standards in dealing with the issue of human rights. Whenever the Zionist regime and its existence comes into the picture, U.S. officials forget all about human rights and their propaganda on the issue.

From the very beginning of the Islamic Awakening process, or the Arab Spring as the Westerners call it, opposing the influence and meddling of the U.S. in the region has been the main point of all the massive demonstrations.

Contrary to the arguments about the Arab Spring made by Western political analysts, it is an undeniable fact that the regimes overthrown in 2011 were all backed by the U.S. until almost the very end.

If there had been no U.S. support, the hated autocratic regimes would have been deposed and replaced by popular governments many years ago.

In fact, the United States’ military and financial support facilitated these governments’ repression of their own people for many decades.

After the storming of the Israeli Embassy in Cairo by the Egyptian people, and since the revolutionaries in other countries are continuing their daily demonstrations in front of U.S. embassies, it can be argued that opposing U.S. influence and interference is an inseparable part of the liberation movements of the region.

However, Western media outlets are downplaying this fact and are attempting to give the impression that Washington was neutral in the recent revolutions.

The U.S. has never had a positive image in the Middle East.

And when it uses its veto to scuttle the motion to recognize Palestine as an independent state, it will once again illustrate the reason for the historic hostility toward the old superpower.
