AXIS CELLULAR CARES FOR ENVIRONMENT

Medan, Indonesia, Sept 23 (ANTARA) - Cellular operator Axis along with other GSM operators in the world will be taking part in the environmentally safe energy program for the world cellular industries.
"AXIS as a new player in the GSM sector in Indonesia and 3G telecommunications industies is not obstructing us in taking part in the international initiative," AXIS CEO and President Director Erik Aas said here, Tuesday.
He explained that AXIS vision provides affordable communications for most Indonesian, which compels AXIS to operate in remote areas with no electrity.
To do that by affordable, reliable and acceptable means of the local people, AXIS needs to seek alternative power resources.
"We see this as a local issue which needs global cooperation in finding the correct solution," he said.
Participating cellular operators in the environmentally safe project for the world cellular industry include AXIS, Bhartil, Dialog, Digicel, Idea Cellular, Indosat, Econet, Grameenphone, Mobinil, MTC Namibia, MTN Cameroon and MTN Group.
The other participants are MTN Nigeria, MTN Uganda, Orange, Orascom Telecom Holding, Roshan, Safaricom, Smart, Telefonica, Telenor Pakistan, VimpelCom, Vodacom Tanzania, Vodafone Egypt, Zain Group and Zantel.
