UK hosts event on Azerbaijan

Baku, October 1 (AzerTAc). The European Azerbaijan Society has organized an event entitled “From Azerbaijan to Birmingham” in the United Kingdom`s capital London.
According to the society, the event brought together Azerbaijani ambassador to the UK Fakhraddin Gurbanov, member of the House of Lords Stephen Gilbert, head of Government Relations at the European Azerbaijan Society Leon Cook.
Addressing the ceremony, Cook said that the UK is a strategic partnership of Azerbaijan stressing the importance of the society `s activity on the boosting of relations on cultural, political and business spheres between the two countries. He also briefed on the society`s role on the investment projects and popularization of Azerbaijani culture in the Europe.
In his turn, Gilbert noted relationship between Azerbaijan and the UK, works carrying out in this field and the Azerbaijan`s oil and gas reserves.
Gurbanov said that Azerbaijan has marked the 20th anniversary of state independence this year. Azeri diplomat emphasized the UK was one of the first countries to recognize the state independence.
Gurbanov also highlighted the development of economic relations after Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev`s visit to the UK.
Azeri ambassador also spotlighted Azerbaijan`s First Lady Mehriban Aliyev`s contribution in the victory gained in the Eurovision 2011.
