MP: the EU decision to assign special ambassador in Ashraf Camp, important step

Baghdad (NINA) – MP from the Iraqiya Slate, Husam Abdul Kareem described the EU’s decision to assign a special ambassador in Ashraf Camp (Iranian Opposition) as “an important step to support and provide advice in this regard, it will also be an assistance factor to solve the case.”

In a press statement today, Abdul Kareem said “this will help the UN solve this case, especially that residents of the camp are refugees under the Fourth Geneva Convention.”

Abdul Kareem added “holding the Ashraf Camp residents is not an intervention in Iran’s internal affairs, since these people are refugees and guests in Iraq, as any other refugees all over the world, their rights should be respected, the siege on the camp must because it is a flagrant violation of the international humanitarian laws.”

He declared that this step is very important and the people of the camp should be given options, not to be forced, this file needs to be solved peacefully away from excessive force against unarmed refugees.

The External Policy Coordinator of the EU, Catherine Ashton, announced that the EU decided to assign a special ambassador to work with the UN on solving the Ashraf Camp crisis. /End/
