Whincup all smiles despite crash

SYDNEY (AAP) - Oct 07 - V8 Supercar star Jamie Whincup has won several prizes during his career but on Friday at Bathurst he presented himself a title he will do his best to forget.
The three-time Bathurst winner labelled himself the "Friday dickhead" after smashing his TeamVodafone Commodore into the wall near the Cutting at the Mount Panorama circuit during the morning practice session.
It left Whincup shaking his head given the accident happened in the dying seconds of the session and left him in danger of missing the afternoon qualifying run for Sunday's 1000km endurance race.
In the end a relieved Whincup had his car repaired in time and qualified third fastest for Saturday's top 10 shootout but he was still less than impressed by his own carelessness.
"I was laughing, if you get the opportunity you should ask Murph (Greg Murphy) about his moment up the top," Whincup said of the build-up to his crash.
"He's dropped a wheel off in the grass and he's just held it on before he's hit the wall on the left.
"So I was laughing at him the lap before and the joke was on me.
"I'm probably the Friday dickhead this year."
While Whincup was left red-faced by his own efforts, he had nothing but praise for his team's ability to rebuild the shattered Holden and get him back on the track.
"Unfortunately I've had a bit of practice ... there's been plenty of times where I've done some major damage and they've fixed it and it's been absolutely perfect," he said.
"All our spares, they're not just spare parts, but they've all been set-up to go straight in and fit perfectly. You bolt them in and do the toes and it all fits perfectly.
"I thought we were all over until two minutes after we got the car back and the boys did their magic to give me another rocket."
