4000 Iranian state employees transferred from Tehran to other cities

TEHRAN, Oct. 10 (MNA) -- About 10,000 government employees have registered to be transferred from Tehran to other cities, and 4000 of them have already been relocated, a Tehran Province official said on Sunday.

Nasser Ebrahimi, the Tehran Province deputy governor general for human resources, explained that Iran’s labor law says “we cannot force an employee” to leave Tehran and it is up to the government employee to decide.

Those who are relocated cannot return to work in Tehran again, except under very special circumstances, Ebrahimi said.

A return to Tehran would only be possible through the endorsement of the move by two vice presidents or a request by an organization or ministry, he added.

There are currently 167,000 state employees working in Tehran, Ebrahimi said.

In line with the efforts to reduce population density in Tehran, the government has offered incentives to state employees who agree to move to other cities.
