‘We have accepted generalities of Russian step-by-step proposal’

TEHRAN,Oct.10(MNA)-- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Saturday that Iran has accepted “the generalities” of the Russian step-by-step proposal according to which Iran could address questions about its nuclear program and be rewarded with a gradual easing of sanctions.

Salehi called the proposal a gesture of Russia’s good faith intended to help resolve the nuclear dispute between Iran and the West.

Salehi also commented on the recent trip that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov made to Tehran, during which the proposal was discussed, and said the experts of the two countries will also hold talks on this matter at the earliest opportunity.

“We will welcome any fair and just proposal which takes into account Iran’s legal rights,” he said. “We are committed to abiding by the IAEA Statute to the extent that we are committed to using our right to nuclear energy.”
