Several countries to sign CE convention on counterfeit medicines.


MOSCOW, October 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Several countries are expected on
Friday to join the new convention of the Council of Europe to combat
counterfeit medicines.
"The new Convention of the Council of Europe to combat counterfeit
medical products and similar crimes threatening public health will be open
for signing as a result of the international specialized high-level
conference held under the CE auspices to counter the spread of counterfeit
medical products," Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander
Lukashevich said.
The convention is expected to be signed by authorized representatives
of Austria, Germany, Cyprus, Portugal, Finland, Ukraine, Switzerland, he
added.
Lukashevich recalled the convention was initiated by a number of CE
members countries, including Russia.
The convention obliges States Parties to criminalize the manufacturing
of counterfeit medical products, supplying, offering to supply, and
trafficking in counterfeit medicinal products, falsification of documents,
and similar crimes involving threats to public health.
