14 EMINENT PERSONS FROM MALAYSIA, INDONESIA TO MEET HERE WEDNESDAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 14 highly distinguished and well
respected personalities from Malaysia and Indonesia will meet here Wednesday
for the second meeting of the Malaysia-Indonesia Eminent Persons Group
(EPG).

Foreign Minister Dr Rais Yatim said the meeting will
continue to delibrerate on bilateral enhancing activities and programmes and
determine its future direction in order to uplift the current state of
bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.

"The two-day meeting followed the first which was held in Jakarta in August
this year," he said in a statement here Monday.

He said that the Malaysia-Indonesia EPG meetings have been mandated by the
leaders of the two countries to forge and enhance mutually beneficial bilateral
cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.

Rais said the EPG machanism also bears tenstimony to the commitment of both
sides toward ensuring harmonious relations in the years ahead.

"At the same time the meeting is expected to harness the existing
complementarities with the view to forge greater strategic depth in bilateral
relation," he added.

He said Chairman of EPG-Malaysia Musa Hitam will be convening the
meeting while Chairman of EPG-Indonesia Gen (R) Try Sutrisno will be
leading the republic's delegation.
