Brazil keen on N.H.R.C. help on capacity building

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) Impressed by the functioning of
National Human Rights Commission (N.H.R.C.), Brazil has
suggested training of its officials by the Indian rights body
and said it could help in developing bilateral cooperation
between the two countries in the area of human rights.

The Latin American country is also banking upon the
N.H.R.C. for capacity building in the area and has expressed
keenness in the training programmes conducted by the rights
body.

A four-member Brazil delegation led by Minister for Human
Rights Paulo Vannuchi met N.H.R.C. members and senior
officials last week to get a first hand experience of the
working of the Commission.

During the meeting, N.H.R.C. officials said, Vannuchi has
said the two countries have "similar problems and challenges"
and it would be "really helpful to establish some kind of
relation" on handling human rights issues as well.

The delegation was full of praise for the training
programme of the N.H.R.C. on handling human rights issues,
they said.

Vannuchi was of the view that training of representatives
from Brazil by N.H.R.C. could be one of the ways to develop
bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the area of
human rights, the officials said.

N.H.R.C. member Justice G P Mathur said the Commission
has offered all possible help to Brazil on establishing a
relationship with the Latin American country with regard to
human rights issues. PTI SJY
