Five accused of Delhi blasts handed over to Gujarat Police

New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) Five suspected terrorists, who
were allegedly involved in Delhi serial blasts, were Monday
handed over to Gujarat Police by a court here for probing
their alleged role in the synchronised terror attacks in
Ahmedabad.

All the suspects -- Mohammed Saif, Zeeshan Ahmad,
Mohammed Shakeel, Zia-ur-Rehman and Saquib Nissar -- were
produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Vinay Singhal on the
completion of their 12 day-long custodial interrogation in
the blast case registered with Connaught Place police station.

They were remanded to judicial custody in all the cases
lodged at different police stations here.

The Gujarat Police moved an application before the court
seeking their transit remand for taking them to Ahmedabad for
probing their role in similar blasts carried out on the
evening of July 26, which claimed 56 lives and left scores of
people injured.

They submitted that 27 accused have already been arrested
in connection with such cases there and names of these five
suspects have surfaced during the investigation.

The accused of Delhi blasts were taken into custody in
connection with a case registered with Maninagar Police
station there.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Police also moved a similar plea for
the custody of Mohd Saif, one of the five suspects, which was
turned down by the court on the ground that the plea was first
moved by Gujarat Police.

The court, however, asked Rajasthan Police to move a
similar plea in Gujarat.

The counsel for suspected terrorists opposed the granting
of their custody to Gujarat police saying the Delhi High Court
was also seized of the matter.

Saif was arrested following an encounter in Jamia Nagar
in south Delhi on September 19 while Zeeshan was arrested on
the same evening from Jhandewalan area in Central Delhi where
he had gone to give an interview to a private T.V. channel.

The other three accused -- Shakeel, Zia-ur-Rehman and
Saquib -- were arrested from Shaheen Bagh here on September
20.

All the accused have been booked under various provisions
of the Indian Penal Code (I.P.C.), Explosive Substances Act
and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. PTI A.T.P.
