COMMONWEALTH TOURISM MINISTERS TO STUDY FUTURE OF CTC

CAMERON HIGHLANDS (Malaysia), Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The future of the Kuala
Lumpur-based Commonwealth Tourism Centre (CTC) will be discussed by Commonwealth
tourism ministers when they meet in London next week.

Tourism Minister Azalina Othman Said said the two-day CTC meeting,
beginning Monday, would chart the direction of the centre which began operations
in 2006, to promote tourism, capacity building, exchange of information,
investment drive and strategic alliance in the Commonwealth.

"We will study whether the CTC, which is currently under the ambit of the
Malaysian Government, would be continued as there is no participation from other
countries.

"With the dwindling tourist traffic due to the global economic crisis,
coupled with some countries closing down their airlines, the growth of the
sector is affected," she told reporters after attending the "Zoom! Cameron
Highlands" campaign at Mardi Agrotechnology Park at this highland resort
Wednesday.

Mardi stands for the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development
Institute, which offers advisory services and consultancy to entrepreneurs and
investors in areas relating to agricultural techniques, technology, and
management.

She said the London meeting would also deliberate on the 'Malaysia, My
Second Home' campaign, especially with regard to house ownership by qualified
applicants.
