Ministry of Foreign Affairs about situation in Mumbai and Thailand

Astana, 28 November 2008 (Khabar) - Militants armed with machine guns and grenades have launched a series of co-ordinated attacks in Mumbai. Luxury hotels, a hospital and a railway station, Santa Cruse airport were all targeted on Wednesday night. More than 100 people have been killed with nearly 300 others injured. Gunmen seized about 40 hostages in Taj Mahal and Oberoi hotels. There were foreigners among the hostages. As a result of assault, 15 policemen and 5 terrorists died and 9 terrorists were arrested. Gunmen were heavily armed and they made multiple attacks on high profile locations, all at the same time. The group that claimed responsibility, Deccan Mujahideen, was unknown to global security officials. The militants demand to free from jails all Mojaheds. Some hostages in two hotels were freed, they are citizens of USA, Israel, Canada and UK. But terrorists still keep people in “Nariman House”. And it is known 6 foreigners died and about 250 are hospitalized. Policemen of Makharashtra help to forces of national security, marine land troopers.
Recent data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows that there are no residents of CIS countries who were victims of the attacks in the city of Mumbai. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also commented on the situation which occurred in Bangkok. Thailand’s government opposition supporters seized Bangkok’s second airport Don Mueang in a protest in which the opposition is demanding the dismissal of the country’s prime minister. A hotline has been set up for information regarding tourists currently in Thailand (8 10) 66 2234 6365. Thai officials are conducting an operation to liberate Don Mueang airport. However, over 500 tourists from Kazakhstan cannot return home due to delays of the “Bangkok-Almaty” flight. A hot line has been set up for worried relatives who can call (8 10) 66 2234 6365.
