TWO KILLED IN LANDSLIDE AT IRRIGATION PROJECT
Magelang, C Java, Dec 26 (ANTARA) - A landslide buried two people to death and injured two others at an irrigation project in Magelang's subdistrict of Muntilan, Central Java, on Friday.
Project coordinator Misbah Ali said the fatalities were identified as Amas (28) and Muhyidin (43) while the injured victims were known as Tholib (25) and Muhri (48).
He said the bodies of Amas and Muhyidin, as well as the two injured victims had been evacuated to Muntilan Public Hospital in Magelang district.
The slide occurred at 9 on Friday morning when around 40 local workers were working on a 650-meter aqueduct from Pabelan river to Drojogan village.
"The people started working at 8 a.m. and one hour later the accident happened," Misbah Ali said.
He added that the four victims were working about six meters under the earth when the soil overhead slid and buried them.
"The dead bodies have been evacuated to Muntilan Hospital for an autopsy while the two other survivors are under intensive treatment at the same hospital," Misbah Ali said, adding that a police line had been put around the area where the accident happened.
