Ministry of Internal Affairs summarize year results

Astana, 30 December 2008, (Khabar) - The introduction of the driver’s license tickets was suspended for an uncertain time. This information was provided at the final briefing at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the head of press-services, Bagdat Kodzhakhmetov, the minister’s initiative has been supported by the deputies of the Majilis, the lower house of the Parliament. It also became known that the Processing centre which was in charge of making the electronic chips, addressed its request to the ministry to put off the project due to the difficult financial situation. Summarizing the results of the passing year, policemen note that the number of crimes has decreased by 2%. The rates of hooliganism and rapes has become significantly lower, while the teenage crime rate has also been reduced. For the first time over the course of 15 years, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 15% and the number of people who died during traffic accidents also fell by 25%. Since the beginning of the year, the policemen managed to stop more than one million violations on the roads and arrest over 35 thousand drunk-drivers. Bagdat Kodzhakhmetov has stressed that in 2008 the ministry of Internal Affairs has developed 10 important bills on the struggle against drug dealing alongside those concerning traffic safety and more.

- The ministry is preparing 3 bills for the next year concerning the settlement of order for conducting mass cultural entertainment events, a reinforcement of the responsibility for repeated commitment of a number of administrative violations, and the streamlining of weapons’ turnover and reinforcement of the responsibility for distributing and demonstrating obscene material.
