Kazakhstan and the Organization of the Islamic Conference: cooperation

Topical issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the USA ahead of the Republic’s chairmanship in the Organization of the Islamic Conference in 2011 were in focus at a meeting in the Ak Orda. Kazakhstan’s Secretary of State, Kanat Saudabayev received the US envoy to the Organisation of Islamic Conference, Sada Cumber. According to Kanat Saudabayev, since its first days of independence, President Nursultan Nazarbayev has been protecting and strengthening peace and reconciliation in the Republic’s multi-national society. Kazakhstan’s positive experience gave the head of state an opportunity to step forward with such initiatives as the Congress of the World and Traditional Religions and a forum entitled “A Common world: progress through variety”. As part of its chairmanship in the Organization of Islamic Conference in 2011, Kazakhstan is planning to work on strengthening confidence and mutual understanding between nations and countries. As a result of the meeting, the sides confirmed their interest in further cooperation in terms of implementation of the issues under discussion.

Sada Cumber, US special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference:
- The US government are attentively watching the amazing progress which Kazakhstan has achieved under the leadership of President Nazarbayev. Kazakhstan has to play an important role as the Central Asian leader and be a role model for the whole of the Islamic world in terms of the creation of economic conditions for developing a multi-national society.
