Nursultan Nazarbayev welcomed head of Russian Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan
Astana, 10 January 2009, Khabar - The President congratulated Bishop Mefodiy and all the orthodox Christians on Christmas. The Metropolitan of Astana and Almaty presented the head of state with his new book entitled “Newly canonized and penitents appeared on Kazakhstan’s land”. The edition is devoted to orthodox Christians exiled to Kazakhstan during the times of the Stalin purges.
Father Mefodiy, Metropolitan of Astana and Almaty:
- We always remember their deeds and unswerving belief. We bow to them. This book expresses true thankfulness to the Kazakh nation which hosted the exiled people. Despite living in poverty, they would always share their last piece of bread with suffering people which is how they saved so many lives. We are sincerely thankful to the Kazakh nation for this and we bow low to them for their kindness towards all people who inhabit this land.
