President of Kazakhstan: working meetings

Astana, 14 January 2009, Khabar - Nursultan Nazarbayev has held a number of working meetings in his capital residency, Ak Orda. The Minister for Interior Affairs of the Republic, Baurzxhan Mukhamedzhanov reported to the President on the work done by the Police in 2008 as well as the results of the head of state’s instructions given at the previous Security Council meeting. In particular, the Minister spoke about the strengthening of the public order system and the fight against criminals.

- Thanks to the measures we took, we decreased the number of crimes committed. We are also working on the provision of security in schools now. The largest of them have new school inspectors. Teachers also give their positive evaluation to the inspectors’ work.

The President also received the chairman of the Human Rights Commission, Saginbek Tursunov who gave a Presentation of the 2008 report to the head of state.

- By order of the President, the commission developed a 3-year action plan which was highly esteemed by the UN and the OSCE. Now, we need to find some effective ways of improving our human rights mechanisms.

This year, the Nur Otan People’s Democratic Party is set to mark its 10th anniversary. During its existence, the party turned into one of the Republic’s largest and most influential political structures. The Chairman of the party, Nursultan Nazarbayev and his first deputy Darkhan Kaletayev discussed the most topical tasks of the party’s further participation in the country’s political and economic life.

- This year, Nur Otan is to mark its 10th anniversary. The party leader has given some tangible task in terms of preparations for celebrations and the forth-coming 7th congress of the party.
