Human rights commission in RK

Astana, 04 February 2009, (Khabar) - Human rights Commission under the President of country has been operating for 15 years in Kazakhstan. Human rights commission turned to by over 1000 people. It was founded on the request of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The commission established the reputation of being an authoritative body which manages to confront illegal actions within the legal machinery and employers. Over 1000 people happened to resort to the commission’s services in 2008 alone. More than half of them were rendered the required help. Nurila Shakhanova has been waiting in the queue for housing at the municipal administration. However, her turn has constantly been postponed. Officials never paid attention to the fact that the lady has worked for over 25 years in government service; she also has an academic degree in Historical Sciences and holds the title of Doctor of Philosophy. The case managed to get off the ground only after resorting to the Human Rights Commission under the president of Kazakhstan.

Nurila Shakhanova, director, National Accrediting Centre, Ministry for Education and Science of RK:
- It happened very quickly. I called them in April and I received a letter within ten days saying that the matter is being examined. So you can see the results of the commission’s activity today.

Applications to the commission include disagreements with court decisions on criminal and civil cases, economic disputes, complaints on violations of social and labour rights, those of the housing relations area and acts of omission of the law machinery. Some requests were taken under special control with positive resolutions resulting.

Tastemir Abishev, secretary, Human Right Commission under President of RK:
- In this case, we have speeded up the procedure of receiving housing as part of the state program. In my opinion, everybody regardless of their status, be it a carpenter, a public servant or a scientist, must have equal rights and opportunities to have housing in Astana or Kazakhstan.

Any citizen of Kazakhstan can turn to the commission where problems will be examined and if a human rights violation has taken place, all security measures will be addressed to fight the problem.
