British Open champ Shin signs sponsorship deal

SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean golfer Shin Ji-yai signed Friday a
five-year sponsorship contract with one of the country's leading financial
services companies, Mirae Asset Global Investments Co., a company official said.

The 21-year-old, set to make her debut in the U.S. tour this year, will be
provided with 1 billion won (US$720,000) annually with an additional bonus of 500
million won depending on her performance, said Lee Sung-cheol, chief of marketing
department of Mirae Asset.
"We will fully support Shin to encourage her to yield good results," he said.
Shin won three LPGA titles last year as a visitor, including the British Open,
and recorded seven wins in Korea's golf tournaments. She will start the 2009
season at the SBS Open in Hawaii slated for Feb. 12.
