Aussie economy to emerge resilient: PM

(AAP) - Australia will emerge from the global financial crisis a more resilient economy and country, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says.

Mr Rudd said the government would see Australia through the crisis based on the
economic strategy involving its multi billion-dollar economic stimulus
announcements.
"I believe, based on the economic strategy the government has developed and is
implementing, that we will see Australia through the crisis, and we will be a more
resilient economy and country as a result," Mr Rudd told reporters on Thursday.
But he warned it would be tough along the way.
He repeated his accusation that the Liberal Party's reaction was "to pop the
champagne corks" when the jobless figures came out.
He said it was a challenge of leadership.
"At least with Mr (John) Howard you knew where Mr Howard stood, I don't know where
the Liberal Party actually stands," Mr Rudd said.
"We have, as a government, hope, optimism and confidence for the future of the
Australian economy, but based on an economic strategy to see us through the crisis.
"The alternative is clear ... the Liberal Party and the National Party have a
political strategy to take political advantage of the crisis."
