BAWASLU FINDS SCORES OF VIOLATIONS IN LEGISLATIVE GENERAL ELECTION

Jakarta, Apr 10 (ANTARA) - The General Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) found at least ten violations in the vote casting and counting during the legislative general election held on April 9, 2009.

Bawaslu chairman Nur Hidayat Sardini said here on Thursday evening the ten violations occurred in the distribution of ballots to the wrong regions, yellow ballot shortages, voters who cannot cast their votes due to hospitalization or serving their sentences in different jails.

Other violations occurred in the change in fixed voters lists by heads of KKPS (group in charge of vote casting) and PPS (Vote Casting Committees), ballot boxes lacking in set standards, voters who gave more than one vote, registered voters stayed away from polling stations, and impersonating voters.

Bawaslu also recorded voters who cast their votes in polling booths or in ficticious polling booths in Jayapura city, West Papua.
Various violations were obtained from the reports of the general elections supervisory committee throughout Indonesia, said Nur Hidayat Sardini.

Nur Hidayat really deplored all the vote riggings and violations, although the general elections supervisory board (Bawaslu) had earlier issued a warning of possible problems and violation.

Bawaslu concluded that the KPU was not quite ready to implement the general election on Thursday which had caused all these violations and infringements.***
