New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) From the land of snake charmers
to a superpower, India has changed several posts in the global
audience's perception and so have its elections.

The changing outlook of the global community has prompted
the BBC to tell its viewers what it has barely said about
Indian elections. And the modes of the coverage, too, is
unique this time.

"We are covering the Indian elections comprehensively
this time as India's strong economic growth and its robust
democracy have amazed everyone globally. So we are using the
parliamentary elections this time as a peg to tell the big
Indian story to our global audience," Executive Editor of the
BBC World Service, South Asia Region, Nazes Afroz told PTI.

For Indian channels, elections have been the two major
events to prop up falling TRPs.

NDTV is now using a special bus to get across to the mood
of voters in big as well as small towns and cities. NDTV 24x7
has launched a total of seven new shows, including discussions
with panelists, interviews with political big-shots and views
of the common man.

"Elections are in our DNA. Prannoy Roy and Vinod Dua
redefined election coverage in India.... (we) have been
covering elections for over 20 years. Our programming and
election reporting are recognized as the most credible,
in-depth and analytical," said Senior Managing Editor of the
channel, Sonia Verma Singh.

For election debates and analysis, Times Now has lined up
political experts, including Arnab Goswami, Mahesh Rangarajan,
Vinod Mehta, Swapan Dasgupta, Paranjoy Guha Thakurta,
Swaminathan Aiyer, Navika Kumar and Dilip Padgaonkar to give
over 300 hours of poll coverage.

Similarly, Rajdeep Sardesai-run CNN-IBN has made
arrangements with political big shots like H D Deve Gowda,
Abhisekh Manu Singhvi, Jaya Jaitely, Mamata Banerjee, Sitaram
Yechury, Somnath Chatterjee, among others, who are posting
their blogs.

While, the largest democratic extravaganza is getting its
fair share of limelight, the passion of millions of the
countrymen -- cricket -- is finding a befitting coverage.

For the second season of the IPL, NDTV has tied up with
Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders and will be
introducing a contest for the team. They have also joined
hands with the department of tourism in South Africa to cover
popular spots of the country during the IPL matches.

"This year NDTV will cover IPL comprehensively. For
both NDTV 24x7 and NDTV India, we have lined up four shows a
day. We also have a number of contests, polls, etc. On the
whole, we have added more interactivity this year," NDTV
sports editor Sonali Chander said.

Times Now has introduced Summer Slam, giving viewers
details of the match with panelists like Bollywood actor
Arbaaz Khan, cricket historian Boria Majumdar, Charu Sharma
and Neha Sharma. It has also tied up with Rajasthan Royals to
provide exclusive details related to the team. PTI NIK
