Two persons hospitalised with suspected swine flu in Kolkata

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) Two persons were hospitalised
Saturday in Kolkata with suspected symptoms of swine flu as
screening of passengers for the dreaded disease continued in
all international airports across India.

The Indian nationals were taken to hospital straight from
the NSC Bose International Airport in Kolkata after they
landed from a flight from Bangkok.

Ramen Banerjee (47) and Krishna Shaw (23), were admitted
to the Infectious Disease (ID) Hospital after reporting
symptoms of swine flu at the medical screening unit of the
airport, Additional General Manager (Medical) Sujit Bakshi
said.

Banerjee and Shaw, residents of Rajarhat and Ichhapur
localities respectively in North 24 Parganas district,
suffered from fever and cold, Bakshi said.

One person who had been admitted with suspected symptoms
earlier has been discharged after testing negative for the
disease.

Meanwhile, a total of 90 persons have been tested for
swine flu so far. This includes the one that tested positive
for Influenza (A). Out of 90 persons, 37 were identified
through health screening at international airports and the
rest were samples from persons who have self reported.

The World Health Organisation has reported 11,168
laboratory confirmed cases of swine flu infection from 42
countries till date. There have been 86 deaths due to the
deadly disease worldwide. PTI
