INDONESIANS IN VICTORIA CAUTIONED ABOUT SWINE FLU
Brisbane, May 27 (ANTARA) - Indonesian consul in Melbourne Budiarman Bahar has asked Indonesians living in the state of Victoria to exercise caution about the danger of swine flu following an increase in the number of H1N1 virus cases in the past four days.
"So far, there has been no report of any Indonesian infected by the virus in Victoria," Bahar told Antara correspondent in Brisbane, Australia.
With the spread of swine flu in Victoria, 13 patients were on Monday (May 25) reported to have contracted the disease but the number had increased to 23 on Wednesday morning (May 27).
Bahar also said he was convinced no Indonesian youth was enrolled at Thornbury High School which the authorities closed down last week after one of its students was diagnosed with swine flu. But he said the consulate would continue monitoring developments around the disease in the state.
"For all I know, there is no Indonesian student in that high school, as it is located in a suburban area of Melbourne," he said.
In 2006, the number of Indonesians living in Australia was recorded at about 50,975 . Around 19,000 of them were domiciled in the state of Victoria with most of them living in an area between Melbourne and Geelong.***
