DELHI REGISTERS ITS FIRST H1N1 CASE

NEW DELHI, June 8 (Bernama) -- The first case of influenza A (H1N1) was
reported in the Indian capital on Sunday, when a 35-year-old passenger was
tested positive.

The infected man developed a fever two days after he arrived from New York
recently and is being treated now.

"This passenger is on home quarantine and his contacts have been provided
with chemoprophylaxis (anti-viral drug)," a Health Ministry here says.

It says another male passenger, who sat in close proximity to a confirmed
case on British Airways Flight, had also tested positive.

The 25-year-old man in Hyderabad is undergoing treatment, while health
officials are trying to trace those who were in close contact with him.

Now India has 10 confirmed cases of the deadly virus.

"So far, samples of 176 people have been tested, of whom 10 had tested
positive for novel Influenza A (9H1N1).

"The rest of the samples have been found negative for the novel virus. The
sample of one person is under process," the statement adds.
