Fukuoka research center announces corrections in tourism survey results

FUKUOKA, June 10 Kyodo -
The Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center, affiliated with the Fukuoka municipal
government, on Wednesday announced corrections to the results of a recent
survey on the public recognition ranking of Japanese cities conducted in China
and South Korea.
After reviewing the relevant data, the research center said the rankings for
the most well-known Japanese cities among Chinese respondents was Tokyo, Osaka,
Nagoya, Hiroshima, Kobe, Yokohama, Nagasaki, Kyoto and Sapporo.
On Tuesday, it said Tokyo was followed by Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo,
Kobe, Kyoto, Fukuoka and Kawasaki.
The research center explained that the mistake was caused by insufficient fact
checking and said, ''We'd like to apologize for causing any problems...We will
make further efforts to provide correct information.''
The survey was conducted in February and March on a total of 875 men and women
aged between 20 and 59 living in the Chinese cities of Guangzhou, Qingdao and
Dalian, as well as in Seoul and Busan in South Korea, in a bid to boost
Fukuoka's tourism sector.
