Six more fresh swine flu cases; total touches 50



New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) Swine flu cases in India Friday
touched 50 with six more persons, including a two-year- old
boy and 66-year-old woman, testing positive for the disease.

Three fresh cases were reported from Delhi while two were
from southern city Bangalore and one from western metropolis
Mumbai. Out of the new cases, one case in Delhi was of human
to human transmission.

"Six new cases have been reported from Delhi (3),
Bangalore (2) and Mumbai (1). Of the 50 cases, 16 have been
discharged while the rest are all stable and remain admitted
to health facilities," a Health Ministry official said.

Of the three cases reported in Delhi, the case of a
66-year-old woman is that of human to human transmission. The
woman contracted the disease from her family member who was
reported positive on June 17.

Another case in Delhi was that of a 9 year-old-boy who
reached Delhi on June 11 from the US while the third is a
28-year-old man who travelled from Egypt on June 13.

The case of two-year-old boy testing positive was
reported from Bangalore. The boy reached Bangalore from the US
transiting through London on June 14 and reported to hospital
three days later.

A 36-year-old man, who travelled from Frankfurt and
reached Bangalore on June 14, also tested positive.

In Mumbai, a 36-year-old man, who came from New Jersey on
June 15, tested positive.

Delhi government officials said the number of swine flu
infected patients in Delhi has risen to 18.

"So far samples of 407 persons have been tested of which
50 have been tested positive for novel Influenza A [H1N1]. Of
these, five cases are indigenous cases who got the infection
from the positive cases travelled from abroad," the official
said.

In Dehradun in northern state of Uttarakhand, four
members of a family have been quarantined after they were
found to have swine flu symptoms on their return from a
foreign tour.

The family of Chief Engineer with Oil and Natural Gas
Corporation (ONGC) J S Rathore returned from a 10-day tour to
Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and were admitted to a
hospital after his son was found to have swine flu symptoms.

A 20-year-old man, who returned from South Africa, was
also admitted to a hospital in Muzzafarnagar in northern state
of Uttar Pradesh with suspected swine flu symptoms.

Two Keralites, who arrived in Kochi from Bahrain, were
also quarantined Friday after they showed suspected swine flu
symptoms.

The World Health Organisation has reported 39,620
laboratory confirmed cases and 167 deaths of swine flu from 89
countries as on June 17. PTI SJY
