MENA Diabetes Medical Congress 2023 Kicks Off

Doha, November 17 (QNA) - The two-day MENA Diabetes Medical Congress 2023, organized by the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), began today with the participation of an elite of diabetologists, endocrinologists, diabetes educators, neurologists, general practitioners, cardiologists, and dieticians from Qatar and beyond. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), QDA Executive Director Dr. Abdullah Al Hamaq stressed the importance of the conference and the topics to addressed over two days covering a range of issues related to diabetes prevention, awareness of risks and complications, and the latest treatment methods. The conference is within the activities organized by the QDA on the occasion of World Diabetes Day marked on November 14 every year, he pointed out, saying it is an opportunity to exchange and share information related to diabetes by those concerned including topics related to the pre-diabetes stage, the new classification regarding types of diabetes, and its new treatments, especially those related to the technical aspects, as well as new strategies for controlling it and methods of managing it, the latest research on diabetes in children, the new treatments for type 2 diabetes, among other important subjects. The QDA Executive Director opened the event with a speech in which he appreciated the broad and significant participation of doctors and specialists, reviewing all aspects related to this disease in terms of prevention, treatment, and ways to reduce its complications. Day 1 of the conference focused on new treatments for type 2 diabetes, precise management of this disease, nutritional interventions, the pre-diabetes stage, insulin sensitivity variations among healthy Arab youth, and cardiovascular risk management in diabetic, obesity and its managemen, and weight management in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The International Diabetes Federation estimates that as many as 212 million people, or half of all adults currently living with diabetes, are undiagnosed. Most of these have type 2 diabetes. From this standpoint, QDA aims to educate and send a message that understanding diabetes is the first step towards managing and preventing it, knowing the risk of having diabetes or the risk of developing complications and what do to is important to support prevention, early diagnosis, and timely treatment.
