Diplomacy volunteers visit AZERTAC

The traditional “Diplomacy Week” project jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and ADA University is conducted for diplomacy volunteers active under the auspices of the ministry. On December 21, project participants visited the offices of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) within the framework of the “Diplomacy Week” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.

Diplomacy volunteers first reviewed the photos of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attending various media events, the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s nationwide addresses during the Patriotic War, visits to liberated districts, as well as some of the technical equipment used by AZERTAC at different times.

The participants also examined the section of the exposition dedicated to the martyred journalist of AZERTAC, Maharram Ibrahimov, and were informed about the journalist’s life path.

Students were also informed about the process of news gathering, preparation of news items for publication and editing.

Meeting with the students, the Chairman of the Board of AZERTAC, Vugar Aliyev, spoke about the invaluable contribution of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to the emergence and development of modern Azerbaijani media. He noted that a new stage in the history of Azerbaijani media had started after the National Leader's return to power on popular demand in 1993. Vugar Aliyev said that, as was the case in all other fields, genius leader Heydar Aliyev had made an unparalleled contribution to the development of Azerbaijan’s national press. Azerbaijan's press and media covered made tremendous progress during the period of independence when the Great Leader was leading the country. By a decree Heydar Aliyev signed in 1998, freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of the press were secured in the country. The abolition of censorship in Azerbaijan brought about fundamental changes in the development of the national press and gave an impetus to the development of mass media. The Chairman of the Board of AZERTAC said that the attention and care shown by the Great Leader for the media and journalists are successfully continued by his successor, President Ilham Aliyev. The head of the Agency said that a number of important activities had been carried out during the presidency of the Great Leader to develop AZERTAC, reinforce its structure and material resources, and drew attention to the signing of a number of important decrees and orders in this field.

Speaking about the activity directions of AZERTAC, Vugar Aliyev said that news was published on the resources of the agency in Azerbaijani, Russian, English, German, French, Arabic, Chinese and Spanish languages during the day, along with photo and video actuality. He added that the agency had correspondent stations in 21 countries. He also talked about the reforms carried out in the agency in the last year.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on ways of preventing fake news, the organization of a news agency’s operation in modern times, safety of journalists, preparation of information projects of interest to society, etc.

The event was also joined by the deputy head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vasif Aliyev, second secretary Tural Balakishiyev and attaché Nigar Eyvazzadeh.
