Iran, Uzbekistan call for broadening economic ties

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian ambassador to Uzbekistan Mohammad-Ali Eskandari and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the Iran-Uzbekistan Friendship Group Alisher Kadyrov urged bolstering economic ties between the two countries.

Eskandari met and held talks with Kadyrov in Uzbekistan on Friday.

Elaborating on the latest status of ties between Iran and Uzbekistan in the fields of politics, economics, and culture, Eskandari said that the existing common ground on cultural issues and good relations between the authorities of both countries, along with signed documents and memoranda of understanding (MoUs), have paved the way for a robust and unified partnership to take advantage of existing opportunities to achieve mutual benefits.

He added that the roadmap laid out and signed by the foreign ministers of Iran and Uzbekistan is under serious consideration, expressing hope that there would be a significant expansion of economic and trade exchanges between the two countries in the upcoming year.

Kadyrov, on his part, referred to successful trips of members of parliament and the presidents of both countries, emphasizing the need for the implementation of signed documents.

He mentioned that despite the brotherly relations between the two countries and their potential for collaboration, the current $500 million volume of economic relations is insufficient.

He highlighted the significance of historical, cultural, and religious ties in strengthening the relations between Iran and Uzbekistan.
