Saudi Student's App Selected as Top 3 in Apple's Swift Student Challenge

Riyadh, May 02, 2024, SPA -- Apple announced yesterday on its website that the application "My Child," created by Saudi student Jawaher Al-Enezi at the Apple Developer Academy, has been selected as one of the top three apps at the Swift Student Challenge, out of 350 submissions from 35 countries.
Al-Enezi revealed that she was very close to her grandfather, who passed away when she was five years old. Soon after his passing, she developed a stutter that significantly impacted her speech. With the support of her father, she learned techniques to manage her stutter, eventually overcoming it.
Reflecting on her experience, Al-Enezi emphasized that her father never made her feel different, and she hopes her app will provide the same support and encouragement to children and young people facing similar challenges. "I don't want them to ever feel like stuttering is a hurdle they can't overcome," she remarked.
"My Child" narrates Al-Enezi's journey through the perspective of a child who stutters, featuring characters inspired by her father and grandfather. The app offers exercises to help users regulate their breathing and prepare for real-life scenarios such as reading aloud in class. Al-Enezi incorporated AVFAudio to simulate the techniques her father used to break down sentences into manageable parts.
Looking ahead, Al-Enezi aspires to pursue a career as a programmer in Saudi Arabia. She plans to publish "My Child" on the App Store and continue developing apps that assist individuals facing similar challenges.
In 2021, Apple Inc. and Tuwaiq Academy, an educational institution for advanced technologies in Riyadh, established the first Apple Developer Academy in the Middle East and North Africa. It stands as the only all-female academy globally. The academy aims to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem of female tech leaders and entrepreneurs, leveraging technology and innovation to build a sustainable and prosperous future for local and global communities.
