QUARANTINED PEOPLE SHOW NO FLU SYMPTOMS

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry has found that 875
people undergoing home quarantine after having come into contact with Influenza
A(H1N1) patients do not have symptoms of the disease.

Nevertheless, Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican has
requested them to continue remaining at home and not go to public places or
attend tuition or religious classes.

"If they have fever, cough, sore throat and cold, they should seek treatment
at hospitals," he said in a press statement here.

He also said that Sekolah Kebangsaan Setapak Indah and the Seri Cempaka
International School, both here, had closed one class each until July 9.

Dr Mohd Ismail requested those who had throat swabs taken at government
hospitals or entry points to test for H1N1 infection to contact the hospitals to
find out the lab test results.

"The results of the tests will usually be known in 24 hours after the sample
is taken," he said.

He said Malaysians students and people on holiday returning from countries
badly affected by the flu outbreak to do self-monitoring.

Those who were unwell or had symptoms of infection such as cough and fever
should immediately see a doctor, stop mixing with friends and forgo attending
classes or going to work, he said.

On the latest situation of the outbreak in the country, Dr Mohd Ismail said
that as of 8am today, 33 new cases had been reported with 21 of them imported
and 12 locally transmitted.

This brings the cumulative number of cases to 359, comprising 292 imported
and 67 locally transmitted cases.

Of the 359 cases, 257 (or 72 per cent) have recovered and have been
discharged from hospital, leaving 102 still under treatment," he said.

Dr Mohd Ismail said the new cases involved 24 Malaysians and nine
foreigners, among them four Indonesians, two Kuwaitis and one American, one
Indian and one Thai.

Of the 21 imported cases, nine had visited Thailand, three Australia, three
the Philippines, three Indonesia, two Kuwait, and one the United Kingdom, he
said.

He also said that the World Health Organisation (WHO) had informed that as
of 8am today, the cumulative number of cases in 126 countries was 91,065 with
