BANDUNG HOSPITAL RECEIVES TWO MORE H1N1 SUSPECTS



Bandung, West Java, July 10 (ANTARA) - Hasan Sadikin Hospital again received two patients suspected to be suffering from influenza A (H1N1) or swine flu, bringing the total number of swine flu patients in the hospital to eight.

The new patients were identified by their initials as Na (2 years old), and C (18 years). They were sent to the hospital on Thursday (July 9) at 10.30 pm local time.

Dr Primal Sujana of Hasan Sadikin Hospital said here on Friday that Na (2) was a daughter of Mrs. Ey, an Indonesian national who lived in Istanbul, Turkey.

Na had shown indications of light illness (ILI) of H1N1 since Monday (July 7). She was later rushed to the hospital on Thursday night and is currently being treated in the same room as her mother, he said.

C, a resident of Bandung District, started to have the ILI symptoms on Wednesday after coming back from Washington DC.

On her way to Indonesia, C made transits in Frangkfurt (Germany) and later in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

Hasan Sadikin Hospital has so far treated eight swine flu patients or suspects. Two had been sent home as they were confirmed negative, two proved positive but will return home today, and four others are still being treated.

Primal Sujana said the two new patients are still being considered as suspects until the hospital gets laboratory test results.

"We are still waiting for the results of laboratory tests from the health development and research institute. As usual, the health minister herself will announce the results," Sujana said.

The number of influenza A (H1N1) or swine flu cases in Indonesia increased by 24 recently bringing the total number of sufferers in the country to 52, the health minister said.

"Of the 24 new cases, three involve foreigners, and the rest Indonesian nationals," Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said in Jakarta on Thursday.

The patients were being treated at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung (2), Sulianti Saroso Hospital in Jakarta (12), Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar (1), Gatot Subroto Army Hospital in Jakarta (2), private Siloam Hospital in Jakarta (2), Adam Malik Hospital in Medan (3), and Kanujoso Djati Hospital in Balikpapan (2), the minister said.
