Seoul confirms 23 additional cases of influenza A

SEOUL, July 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea confirmed 23 additional cases of new
influenza infections Friday at a Seoul school where some 830 students and
teachers may have been exposed to the highly contagious H1N1 virus.
The new findings put the nation's tally at 682.

The school began its summer vacation Friday, ahead of its original schedule.
"All 800 students and some 60 teachers have been told to stay home," a school
official said.
There have been no deaths from the new influenza reported in the country, while
most of the patients in confirmed cases have been placed in quarantine.
Health care experts are demanding that the government consider moving the focus
of its efforts from containment to mitigation, a move aimed at reducing
transmission of the virus.
Health care centers nationwide are currently monitoring over 4 million people who
have flown in from affected countries or who have had person-to-person contact
with people diagnosed with influenza A virus.
