BoT concerned A(H1N1) spread to more severely impact economy

BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) – Bank of Thailand (BoT) Governor Tarisa Wattanagase on Monday said the central bank is monitoring the A(H1N1) influenzas pandemic and felt concerned it would yet have an even greater impact on the economy.

She said the bank will convene a meeting on July 24 to consider inflation and whether tp revise the economic growth projection for this year.

Currently, Mrs. Tarasi said, many economic indicators had begun improving as the country’s economy had shrunk at a slower pace.

She allowed there are some risk factors, particularly the A(H1N1) virus spread, that need be monitored more carefully.

However, it could not yet be concluded whether the ongoing economic slowdown stemmed from the H1N1 virus pandemic because many other risk factors are involved, she said.

Earlier, the BoT forecast the Thai economy would contract 1.5-3.5 per cent for this year. (TNA)
