S. Korea confirms 48 new flu cases

(ATTN: UPDATES with revised patient numbers in lead, para 4)
SEOUL, July 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's health authorities said Friday that they
have confirmed an additional 48 cases of type-A influenza, raising the total
number of flu infections here to 1,115.

The patients, including eight primary and high school students and several who
recently entered the country from abroad, all tested positive for the H1N1 virus,
according to the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs.
It said there is a growing number of cases involving people getting sick without
having traveled abroad, indicating that the virus is spreading via
person-to-person contact.
The number of confirmed cases in South Korea topped 1,000 as of Wednesday. A
total of 377 patients remain in isolation, with the rest having been sent home.

South Korea has been relatively insulated from the global pandemic, which has
claimed hundreds of lives worldwide since the disease was first identified in
April. No deaths have been reported in the country in connection with the
disease.
