TAMIFLU VACCINE DISSEMINATED ACROSS SOUTH SUMATRA

Palembang, Indonesia, Aug 1 (ANTARA) - The South Sumatra provincial health office has supplied tamiflu vaccine to all health service units across the province in a bid to prevent the swine flu or H1N1 virus from spreading in the region.

South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin made the remark here on Saturday, adding that his side had also distributed a Health Ministry circular on efforts to anticipate the H1N1 pandemic.

In addition, the local administration had delivered a quantity of tamiflu vaccine to regional general hospitals and health centers in all districts and towns in the province, he said without mentioning the exact quantity vaccine already delivered.

Apart from that, the governor said, masks, gloves and special shoes had also been distributed to local health centers in the province.

The local government in cooperation with the port medical center also provided temperature control devices at the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II airport, especially at the foreigners entry gate.
"It is impossible to conduct 100 percent prevention to the swine flu viruses, so the good way to prevent the H1N1 viruses is by using masks and stay away from the swine flu affected patients," he disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said early this week that the number of people infected with the H1N1 virus in Indonesia had reached 416, and one of them had died.

In addition, the Health Ministry said that since the first time flu case was detected on June 24, 2009, the number of swine flu victims had continued to rise and by Monday night the number had reached over 444. ***
