PORTAL AIMS TO PROMOTE, DISSEMINATE GOOD, CREATIVE IDEAS

PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) aims to achieve one Malaysia one million ideas
by next year via its idea bank portal, myideas.

"The idea bank aims to promote and disseminate good and creative ideas to
improve our nation by encouraging the public to generate them and participate in
the problem-solving process," said its minister Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili.

He said this in his keynote address at the presentation of 2009 Junior
Chamber International (JCI) Creative Young Entrepreneur Award here Saturday.

The award aims to recognise young entrepreneurs and the important role that
creativity plays in the success of entrepreneurial drive, as well as to showcase
creative young entrepreneurs worldwide.

Set up in line with the government's efforts to make next year the year of
creativity and innovation, the portal features submission of ideas,
participation and discussion of ideas in forums, database of ideas and ideas in
implementation.

Ongkili said Malaysians had to go for higher value-added jobs and compete
with the world for greater benefits.

"We need creative ways to reduce our cost and increase productivity, as well
as new products and services with high-value to sustain economy growth," he
said.

Meanwhile, Bob Chua, founder of Pulse Group plc, Ganesh Kumar Bangah,
co-founder of MOL Access Portal Bhd and Timothy Tiah Ewe Tiam, founder of
Nuffnang Sdn Bhd, were selected to represent Malaysia at the JCI World Congress
in November.
