JAPANESE INVESTOR TO APPLY ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY TECHNOLOGY

Jakarta, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - A Japanese investor planned to apply environmentally friendly technology to the mining and electricity sectors in Indonesia, an official said.

"The cooperation between two sides covered the application of carbon capture storage technology, clean coal technology, low rank coal, and C02 emission reduction at power plants," Evita H. Legowo, Oil and Gas Director General at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said in Jakarta Monday.

She said that the G to G cooperation will be followed up by Japanese investors and their local partners in Indonesia.

In the meantime, Electricity and Energy Utilization Director General J. Purwono said the environmentally friendly technology with the Japanese investors will be applied to power plants with Japanese investment, such as Tanjung Jati B, Paiton, and Cirebon.

Purwono said that all the power plants in Indonesia would later have to meet the emission standard set by the government.

Purwono added that the Japanese investors were also interested in building environmentally friendly power plants like geothermal and hydro power plants.
