GOV OPPROVES TAKA 25.6 THOUSAND CRORE ADP FOR 2008-9

DHAKA, Bangladesh, June 8 (BSS)- Bangladesh government has approved today the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the fiscal year 2008-09 at an expenditure outlay of Taka 25.6 thousand crore, said an official handout. The approval was given at a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) with Chief Adviser and Chairman of the NEC Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair. The meeting held at the NEC building at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city was attended, among others, by finance adviser Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam, other advisers, special assistants to the chief adviser, cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the chief adviser, members of the Planning Commission, secretaries of the concerned ministries and divisions and other senior officials. The share of domestic resources in the new ADP for 2008-09 will be Taka 13.6 thousand crore. Its size will be bigger by Taka 3.1 thousand crore from the revised ADP of the current fiscal. The new ADP will have emphasis on various growth aspects having direct bearing on poverty reduction and human resources development. The budget will give priority to promoting higher growth in agriculture, agro- based industries and non-farm activities, creation of self-employment, power generation and distribution, rural development and transportation. Emphasis will also be given to better water resource management, promoting education, health, nutrition and family welfare, women, children and youth development, good governance, development of road and infrastructure, information and communication technology and equitable development of all regions.
