Twin cubs of Gobi’s Mazaalai bears, a very rare species in the world are growing up safe and sound. A female of mazaalai is called an evsh. The researchers have found during their studies that two female mazaalai gave birth to twins both on last spring.
Mazaalai produces young animals usually in February, when hibernating. So, the twins should be now in about 4-5 months of age. This rare animal gives birth mostly to twins once for two years and cubs are cared tenderly by their mothers up to the moment when they will able to make a long journey.
There are just only over 20 mazaalai bears in Mongolian Gobi and registered as the endangered animals. The southern Altai Gobi and the Great Gobi Strict Protected Area are the main habitat of this rare species. This land is the most dry and arid zone in the Central Asia, and also there is very scarce of water resources.
Mazaalai faces the danger of being completely destroyed due to the natural and climate changes, lack of foods and its own reproduction specifics, as well as human activities. That is why in recent years the scientists and researchers have been raising their voice so actively for safeguarding this rare biological species. So, it is good news that the poor family of Gobi’s rare Bears is increased by four cubs.
