A total of 168 boys aged between 10 and 15 years were grouped into in 12 teams of 14 participants each. Each team will be accompanied by Noukhatha, Majdami and Rdif.
This competition contributes to connecting children and young adults with their marine heritage through interesting and exciting activities that simulate diving trips in the past, in an effort to adhere to the original marine heritage and live all its details as parents and grandparents in the past.
Saeed Al Kuwari, supervisor of the competition, said in a statemen that the fifth edition of El Meyna competition will start with "Al Dashah" from Katara Beach at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, where the participating children will gather at Gate No. 16, Beach No. 2. The competition will run until Friday with the closing ceremony "Al Ghafal", he added.
Al Kuwari said that the participating teams will be divided into three categories, including diving and fishing, pointing out that the return to the beach on the first day will be at 6:00 pm, to perform the Maghrib prayer, and visit Katara Traditional Dhow Museum to learn about the museum's contents of traditional bearings and ancient means and tools that were used in fishing and pearl diving, which gives the children participating in the competition an opportunity to discover their maritime heritage and the history of their ancestors that was full of challenges. The children then will perform the evening prayer and listen to a religious lesson before they start to play traditional games.
He stressed that the competition contributes to linking children and youth with their maritime heritage through interesting and exciting activities that simulate diving trips in the past, explaining that it embodies an educational cruise, in which children learn patience, perseverance, cooperation, noble values and positive behaviors, and instill in them the biography of parents and the ancestors, and the sacrifices they made in the difficult circumstances as well as the natural challenges that faced them.
