Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair is officially opened

BANGKOK, Sept 7 (TNA) -- The 60th edition of Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair is officially opened Wednesday highlighting jewelry designed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana. The Princess presided over the opening ceremony of the Fair at Mueang Thong Thani in Bangkok. Her jewelry designs under the brand “Sirivannavari” are displayed in a special exhibition along with other sections dedicated for new talents and Thai designer’s works at the Fair running from Wednesday through September 10. The exhibition also features some fashion designs from her Sirivannavari brand, with an aim to inspire young designers. The princess, a daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has gained worldwide recognition for her designs. Commerce Ministry Apiradi Tantraporn said representatives of more than 900 jewelers had participating in various activities of the Fair expected to attract at least 20,000 visitors from 130 countries. Thailand is the world’s 10th largest manufacturer and exporter of gems and jewelry. Gems and jewelry generated largest export revenue for Thailand, after automotive and electronics, Apiradi said. In the first seven months of 2017, gems and jewelry exports generated nearly US$7 billion, added the minister. Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair begins with business matching from September 6 to 8 before a retail session on the last two days. (TNA)
