Bus gives discount between Royal cremation ceremony

BANGKOK, Sept 30 (TNA) -- Realising that millions of Thai people would travel from upcountry to Bangkok to pay last respects to their beloved His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the Royal Cremation day on October 26, the state-owned Transport Co, Ltd offers a hefty discount for bus fares. Jirasak Yaovatsakul, president of Transport Co, Ltd, said his bus company offers a 20 per cent discount on interprovincial bus fares for upcountry people wishing to participate in the ceremony between October 25-29. However, the discount covers the routes longer than 300 kilometres. Mr Jirasak said Transport Co, Ltd has prepared 9,233 buses daily which could provide services to 186,788 commutes from every region between those five days. A similar discount is also offered to people travelling between Bangkok-Saraburi and Bangkok-Ayutthaya on October 26 only, said Mr Jirasak. These two provinces are close to Bangkok. Also, the Transport Co, Ltd has cooperated with operators of private-run bus firms in Bangkok to provide free shuttle buses from October 25-29 between Mor Chit 2 to Sanam Luang Ground, the site of the ceremony. His Majesty the late King passed away last October 13. (TNA)
