CATC to increase aviation personnel production

BANGKOK, Sept 22 (TNA) -- The Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC) is speeding up its production of aviation personnel to meet demand and planning new training facilities for the purpose. CATC President Piya Atmungkun said there was a shortage of captains and demand came from many airlines which were competing for the personnel. He assured that the CATC was accelerating the production. According to him, the present production capacity is at 220-230 pilots a year. The rate will rise by 150-160 in a few years. The CATC operates its training center in Bo Fai sub-district of Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. RAdm Piya said a new aviation training center would be built in Roi Et province. The CATC also plans to build another aviation training center worth 1.4 billion baht at its headquarters on Phahon Yothin Road in Bangkok. Construction will begin next week and the new facility will be completed in 2021. (TNA)
