Commerce Ministry’s 2018 plan to make Thailand gems, jewelry hub

NONTHABURI, Oct 6 (TNA) -- The Commerce Ministry has ordered the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT) to formulate a plan for implementation next year to develop Thailand into the world’s centre of gems and jewelry trade within 2021. GIT director Duangkamol Jiambutr said the plan would focus on the development of the gems and jewelry industry, marketing campaigns including digital ones, and the promotion of Thailand’s image to build up confidence among customers. Next year’s plan would also include researches and innovations on gems and jewelry as well as GIT’s roles in developing local and international networking, she said. Ms Duangkamol also said that GIT was certified by the World Jewellery Confederation, was one of five members of the Laboratory Manual Harmonization Committee (LMHC) covering world-class gems laboratories, and was the only organization in Thailand to meet the ISO 17025.
